The Mid-Boldon Club was founded in
1912 by a group of local businessmen. Partly as a result of this,
the club was known for a while as the "Conservative
Club", although it has never had any political affiliations.
The "Mid" was the Sunderland and South Tyneside
Campaign for Real Ale "Club of the year 2001" and
features an ever changing portfolio of four "guest"
hand-pulled real ales. 258 different cask beers in2006.
The club boasts a full size 1930's Bur-watt, one piece,
Italian slate bed snooker table. A domino
handicap is held every Sunday lunchtime, £1.20 per man entry. A fun
(?) Quiz, is held every Sunday night, (well, Mick the
Quiz has some fun) and the local branch of the
Campaign for Real Ale meets monthly in the Victor Meldrew Room. Two, (count 'em), two large televisions show
live sports including Sky Sports and the third Thursday of the month is
"Buskers' Night" with live music from anyone who fancies having a go.
Conceived and still run as a "Gentlemen's" club, "The Mid" host regular Ladies
Nights, (St. Valentine's night, St. Pat's, St George's, Hallowe'en etc.) and
celebrated is 90th. birthday with a huge, (90p per pint!) party over the
weekend of 6th/7th July 2002. New members are always welcome,
(applications are processed monthly, subscriptions accepted daily). Next
ladies nights are Buskers' Night, (18th Jan) and St Valentine's night, (10th
February)
